Some parishioners participate in the Schools Values Education Programme at Risdon Vale Primary School. The team works in close co-operation with the principal and staff of the school.
This outreach programme is a very important part of our ministry to the people of Risdon Vale, as it provides a link between church, school and community.
The national framework for Values Education in schools lists nine particular values to be taught to students:
At Risdon Vale School these values are taught as a "high five" (see SideBar)
Under these headings, the team show how use the scriptures teach these values. For example the parable of the Good Samaritan teaches us about care and compassion.
The course is presented in various ways, such as drama, games, music and story telling.
High Five:
I am safe
I am responsible
I am respectful
I am ready
I am a learner.
